PRP for Hair Restoration

Hair loss can be an embarrassing issue for both men and women and not all hair restoration options are for everyone. Surgical hair restoration can be cost prohibitive and prescription drugs can cause unwanted side effects. There is now an alternative method to help improve hair loss using Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP).

PRP contains healing growth factors. Your body’s platelet rich plasma is used to help stimulate and restore the hair follicle. This helps dormant hair regenerate; helping with regrowth, increase hair shaft thickness, and maintain a healthy environment for your hair. PRP is not a cure for genetic medical problems such as Androgenic Alopecia, but can slow down effects of Alopecia with regular treatments.

PRP for hair restoration is a relatively painless three-step process.

  • Step 1 – Blood is drawn by a board certified nurse practitioner using a special collection tube and placed in a centrifuge.
  • Step 2 – After 10 minutes, the centrifuge process is completed and the concentrated platelets are drawn up into a syringe.
  • Step 3 – Using a small needle, the platelets are injected into the vascular layer of your scalp.

The number of treatments will vary per each individuals needs; treatments are generally spaced 1 month apart. Analgesic options are available to help minimize the discomfort of the procedure. The entire hair restoration process is relatively quick; collection/preparation time is 10-15 minutes and PRP treatment 3-5 minutes.
